It was founded by Jono and Damo (two design loving interior guru's) who specialise in providing the best of NZ design and made products."...we wanted to offer a place for other NZ artists like ourselves to display their work, as well as the trendiest goods and furniture from NZ & abroad." This week we chat to Jono about design inspiration, his favourite products available to shop now and more!

Can you tell us a little bit about 'Created Homewares'? We started our business by making goods out of concrete, candles, pots, letters and selling them at markets. Jono needed a creative outlet as he is an art student and at the time was managing a gym, not using his talents. We ended up having a few pieces in Jamie & Haydens house on the block 2015 and things started to take off online. After meeting other awesome NZ makers at markets we decided it was time to open a store in our home town showcasing quality, trendy NZ made goods and here we are, stocking NZ and worldwide brands and setting the trends in Homeware. We are trendy, casual, cool and a little risky.
What inspires you?
Learning, this store has taught me soo much and it still is, expanding my knowledge on trends, business, staff and creating drives me to do more.
What do customers love most about visiting your store?
Our cool but Upper Hutt vibe. We're not the kinda store your going to walk in and not be greeted and talked to, you might see a swear word or 2 here and there but that's who we are. I don't want to bring ponsey to the town, I wanna bring cool shit to the town!
How would you describe New Zealand's art and design culture? Innovative, forward thinking and DIY. With the store we made everything ourselves, the counters, the peg walls, the stands. Kiwis are great at making and people really to to embrace it and be proud!
Who is your favourite New Zealand designer?
I actually don't have one.I have never followed any individual designer that closely, maybe it'll be me when I launch our couch range I've designed? Or maybe I will become someone's.
What are a few of your favourite New Zealand designed or made products? I love our kokedama range, made in NZ and always popular with the greenery trend atm. Caliwoods eco straw range, she is so inspiring! The Me & My Trend Sofas we have instore, the ultimate lush Velvet Luxury. And then my own concrete letters, they are a pet hate of mine due to the amount of them I have to make, but they are a great way to pull off the ultimate Shelfie!
What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
I have to quote my friend Jane Verry, " Well what do you think?" She was my boss a few years back and if you asked her a question that was her answer. Think for yourself and answer your own questions, you will learn a whole lot more from it!
And finally, do you have any advice for aspiring New Zealand creatives?
Don't listen to anyone, take in everything, have confidence and keep doing what your doing! You don't know what you don't know, so go find out about it!
